On Thursday, October 12, students in the second, third, and fourth grades toured the historic site of Panama La Vieja in honor of Hispanic Heritage Day.
They visited the museum and learned about the early indigenous settlers of the location as well as the colonization process, which began with the Spanish founding of Panama City. They had a spectacular panoramic view of modern Panama City from the Tower of the Old Cathedral, where they heard more about the pirate Henri Morgan’s attack.
Academic goals:
1. Recognize the historical significance of Panama La Viejas’s significant site.
2. Make a connection between Panama La Vieja and Columbus Day.
3. Respect the Panamanian nation’s historical legacy.
